The Hurstpierpoint Singers formed in 1950 and, over the years, the group has provided a warm welcome to very many new members, who all enjoy their singing.
Our Musical Director is Paul Simpson.
Paul has been involved in a wide range of music all his life having conducted several choral societies, community choirs and amateur operatic groups. He was Director of Music at St. John’s Church Burgess Hill for twelve years and is at present Director of Music at Albourne, Sayers Common and Twineham. Paul took direction of The Hurstpierpoint Singers in 2012.
The choir performs at least two concerts each year.
In December we have a concert of carols and seasonal music, usually performed in the Hurstpierpoint Village Centre.
In the Spring we have a major concert, usually with professional accompanist and soloists and, on occasions, with orchestral accompaniment. These concerts have been held in Holy Trinity Church, Hurstpierpoint, in St Peter's Church, Henfield and more recently in The United Reform Church, Hassocks.
In recent years we have performed works by Bach, Elgar, Fauré, Haydn, Handel, Mozart, Purcell, Rutter, Saint-Saens, Schubert, Stainer and Vivaldi. Details of the more recent concerts are given on the “Past Events” page.
We meet on Monday evenings from September to Easter at the Methodist Church in Cuckfield Road, Hurstpierpoint at 7.30pm and you are very welcome to join us.
Besides our regular concerts at Christmas and in the Spring we also have the opportunity to join with other choirs to sing both in the UK and abroad.
New members are always welcome. If you enjoy choral singing then do come and join us. No audition is necessary - just come along to one of our Monday rehearsals, or contact us first for more information either by email or by phone:
